Administrators and teachers everywhere recognize the important contributions parents make toward a child’s success in school.  Success at school begins at home.  Parents are the single most important variable in a child’s schooling.  Parents model both a silent and spoken language in front of their children daily.

One of the most important components of a good school is the partnership between the school and parents who work together for the best interest of children.  The close partnership between home and school is one of the exceptional strengths at Blessed Sacrament.

Second quarter report cards are being sent home with your child today. The primary purpose of any effective progress report is to communicate what students know, understand, and are able to do as well as outline areas needing improvement and/or additional support.

Please set aside time with your child to share and discuss their progress so far this year. Teachers have designed the comments specifically for parents to read, consider, and even refer to during their conversation with their child. After all, you are your child’s first and primary teacher. By discussing the report card together, you and your child are able to celebrate their successes, reflect on their progress, and set goals for next semester.

We will complete our first round of STAR Mathematics and Reading benchmark assessments this Friday.  On Monday, February 2, I will facilitate two one-hour parent informational meetings at 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM in the auditorium.  Please attend just one.  The purpose of this meeting is to explain the changes in how the Archdiocese collects and analyzes student academic data but, more importantly, clarify your child’s individual scores so you can be better informed when speaking with your child’s teacher.

Your child’s benchmark assessment scores will be given to you at the meeting.  However, if you cannot make either one, your child’s results will be in next week’s family envelopes.

To help me better prepare for this meeting, attached to your child’s report card is a response sheet.  If you are attending the meeting, please indicate which one.  If you will not be attending, please sign and return the sheet.

We pray that all parents will help us fulfill this commitment to excellence on behalf of all children at Blessed Sacrament.  School and home can work together to build skills and knowledge, reinforce values, and develop a strong sense of self worth. Parent commitment is the key to our success with the children we teach.
